My landlady hears my ballwinder

My landlady hears my ballwinder. She says she can hear her ceiling vibrating. I don't understand it. I've oiled the thing; I turn ever-so-slowly. How can something so small make so much noise?

My fridge also died last week. Manly and I had to wait until someone came by to declare it dead before my landlady would order another. Being a tenant makes me feel so beaten down, as if my life isn't mine. I'm trying to look at the brighter side of everything these days, but it feels so difficult to sometimes.

Speaking of brighter sides, the photo above will reveal itself in color once Sheri at the Loopy Ewe gets the order. I got this idea from Susie of Perchance to Knit, who also dyes for the Loopy Ewe.

As a sock knitter and hoarder of sock yarn, I had to stare at this mountain for a while before boxing it. I also had to refrain from wanting to cuddle with each skein.

What is said about drinking and knitting can also be said about spinning. I spun the majority of this after a few glasses of wine:

Non-wine spinning:

(The roving is "Autumn Girls" from Spunky Eclectic, which was given to me by Coley.)

Mind you, I haven't been taught how to spin, so I'm sure that my spinning looks like a very drunk person spun it. I bought a book, read it, and looked at videos on-line. This is also how I taught myself to knit. A spinning friend of mine is coming over this week, and hopefully she can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

I want to thank you all for the warm comments that you left for me these past two weeks. It's really comforting to know that people are with you and thinking good thoughts for you. Thank you.

LOL, I was really impressed by the grey-tones of your yarn, duh!! As for your landlady, that sounds wierd, but I'm sure it's pretty annoying for her. I discovered some special noise reducing discs at target, you put them under the noise producing objects, and the vibrations are reduced - no idea if they work, but it's an idea.

I can't wait to see the color version of the lush pile of yarn. So glad to see another project accomplished!! Bravo. Mom J

I was going to suggest a similar idea... some sort of rubber or something under the legs of the table/structure that you have the yarn winder attached to! It is not the winder itself making the noise, it is the vibrations through the attachment site which goes through the floor.

Love that gray tone trick, you are a crafty little devil!!

Yes, I agree with the whole being a tenant drag...but look at it another way: SHE had to buy the new fridge, not you!;)

Wow, your landlady sounds like a bit of a nut. Pads under the feet of the table you have the winder attached to would probably work the best. It seem like a very trivial thing to complain about though. Sorry about the fridge. Can't wait to see those skeins in colour!I'll have to check out the Loopy Ewe--will they mail to Canada? Guess I'll find out.

Your spinning will improve with more experience. You might not be doing anything wrong at all. I am insanely jealous that you have a wheel!

I, too, was tricked by the picture of the yarn. I am sure it is even more beautiful in color.

I was sooo excited to see all those grey tones... great photography.

Actually, I'd love some grey-toned variegated sock yarn. Do you ship to Australia? :)

How did little you get all that gorgeous yarn to the P.O.? I guess it wasn't so heavy, but what a large shipment! Congratulations on finishing the order, and I can't wait to show it off to friends when it's posted on the Loopy Ewe!

Putting something under the table might help deaden the noise, but if you HAVE to buy an electric swift, oh, well, you'll just have to!

Congrats and welcome to the flock! Sheri knows how to pick her indie dyers, if I do say so myself. I love being a part of The Loopy Ewe too.

The greyed photo is great...and thank you for the props. But...my name's Susie, not Kelly. Although I *do* like the name Kelly.

:::off to try on a new name:::

Wow, that's a lot of yarn! I can't wait to see it revealed in full color! (and I'll have to check out the Loopy Ewe as well)! I'll fess up - my first thought was "I didn't know she was dying gray yarn!"
